Mission:
At A1 Dance Studio, our mission is to develop self-esteem and a passion for dance in a safe, non-competitive, fun environment whilst encouraging students to grow in confidence and ability.
About:
A1 Dance is a small family owned and operated dance studio established in 1999, offering Ballet, Tap, and Jazz dance classes. Classes are offered in all age groups starting from age 2. Costumes for the annual dance concert are hired at affordable rates.
The energetic Preschool ballet and jazz class develops valuable gross motor skills, rhythm and coordination and is suitable for both boys and girls. Many props are used to encourage participation like instruments, scarves and cheerleader pom poms.
Ballet:
Ballet can be enjoyed by both boys and girls. A combination of RAD, Cecchetti and ADA ballet syllabuses are taught. We enjoy open ballet classes learning new steps and combinations. Ballet develops balance, rhythm, flexibility and strong muscles and a sense of self confidence and grace. Ballet teaches techniques which enhance all forms of dance.
Jazz and Tap:
This increases fitness, coordination, listening skills, flexibility, musicality and social skills. Dancers have fun learning jazz and tap steps which become the dances they perform in festivals and the annual concert.

About me:
My name is Alison Hudson and I am both Principal and Founder of A1 Dance Studio. I grew up in South Africa where I started dancing when I was 8 years old. I was trained in the Cecchetti Method of classical ballet. I attended the Johannesburg school of Performing Arts, studying all forms of dance for my High School education. My studio is my creative outlet and passion in life. Every year we present different themes within the ballet classes.
I do like to encourage a social conscience within the studio so we do an annual charity fundraiser along with supporting a child in Ethiopia through World Vision.
In this day and age where so much emphasis is placed on winning rather than participating I am rather proud that my original idea of a studio where having fun, NO competitiveness and ANY student is welcome, has remained constant throughout and I guarantee that this will continue to do so in the coming years!
